I am trying to decide between the magellan Mestro $600 bucks or the Tom Tom $200. There is a big price difference and I want to know which one is better.
Hi Toogie,
I prefer the garmin Nuvi 350 at about $360 http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002-0785581-4678427?initialSearch=1&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=nuvi but between the Tom Tom and Magellan I would say the Tom Tom isn't as good but the Magellan isn't three times as good. I don't know which model of the Maestro you are referring to. The 4040 is only about $350 and it is near the top of the line. You can see it here - http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002-0785581-4678427?initialSearch=1&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=magellan+gps

garmin has released new maps. Most of their units are entitled to a free update if the unit was purchased recently.
Why don't the i5 and c330 qualify for the free updates?
Without the updates, the units are already out of date.
I heard that updates cost close to $100. Is that correct?
I didn't realize that I don't qualify either I bought mine in late 2005 I have a c330 they consider them "low end" units whatever that means , But looking at different message boards It depends on the tech you speak to .I'm not going to pay 70.00 dollars after I paid 550.00 2 years ago. Keep attempting to get the CD free through tech I see it depends on ywoh you speak to that's my plan or EBay if totally necessary

Several people have been suggesting that "the mining company refuses to pay for GPS tracking devices for miners to wear"… How can people be so STUPID? They refuse to pay for them because they are totally useless… gps doesn't work underground, in fact NOTHING works at the depth these miners are. Dang, I hate stupid people that don't know to shut up.
Lack of information with plenty of open mouth, I guess. It's a sad story as the tragedy increases with 3 rescue workers killed as another portion of the mine collapses.
But anyway, people look for answers to why things happened the way they did, but on the way they start playing the blame game. Even with GPS, if it did work underground, how would it have helped men who were killed instantly? Some tragedies are unavoidable and no one is to blame when earthquakes happen and the earth shifts.
Mining is very risky - always has been and probably always will be.

the song is called var är jag. which means: where am i?
here are the lyrics.
Without you where am I then?
How do I know which way I’m driving on?
Without your voice I’d end up in the wrong place
Even if everything’s dark you make me see
And even if I sometimes make a wrong turn
You’ll always be here to lead me right
One day we lost each other
Everything went dark and your voice disappeared
How would I get to the place I want to be?
Then I saw what made me understand
I thought your power was gone
But it was the cable that had fallen out

“FERDINAND MAGELLAN” was a Portuguese maritime explorer who, while in the service of the Spanish Crown, tried to find a westward route to the Spice Islands of Indonesia. This was the first successful attempt to circumnavigate the Earth in history. Although he did not complete the entire voyage (he was killed during the Battle of Mactan in the Philippines) fellow Basque-navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano completed the final westward voyage. As Magellan traveled her west than the Spice Islands, which he had visited on earlier voyages from the west, he became one of the first individuals to cross all the meridians of the globe. He was the first person to lead an expedition sailing westward from Europe to Asia and to cross the Pacific Ocean.
Magellan was the first European to enter the Pacific from the eponymous Strait of Magellan, which he discovered. He was also the first European to reach the archipelago of what is now known as the Philippines, which was unknown to the western world before his landing. Arab traders had established commerce within the archipelago centuries earlier.
Of the 237 men who set out on five ships to circumnavigate the earth, only 18 completed the circumnavigation of the globe and managed to return to Spain in 1522.[1][2] They were led by a Basque Juan Sebastián Elcano, who took over command of the expedition after Magellan’s death. Seventeen other men arrived later in Spain, twelve men captured by the Portuguese in Cape Verde some weeks later, and in 1525/1526 five survivors of the Trinidad.
